am i the only one who gets mentally distressed or even lightweight PHYSICALLY distressed when their sports team loses? whenever one of my teams lose i can't even stand to look at the box score of the game... it literally takes me a couple days to finally be able to go back and THEN read the recap and study the box score from the loss. i don't care how geeky i'm sounding right now this is 110% truth right now. i can't even bare to watch sportscenter highlights.. its just me tho. either way weird is the new cool in 2010 so i'm up in this b. if you don't know, fatheads are life size posters of superstar athletes. i can understand exactly where dan gilbert and the city of cleveland is coming from. i sympathize with them to the fullest degree. i don't get how people (especially men (with their egos and pride bustin out)) can sit back and say that it was the "right" move for lebron. it wasn't the "right" move, instead, to me, it was just the easy way out. i'm not gonna sit here and be a dumb-ass and say that i'm NOT excited for the NBA season but what I can say is that with all of that boner popping excitement is a feeling of disappointment and let down. because to me, a "superstar" is yes indeed measured by how many championships he/she has won but the road to that championship should also be just as legendary as the superstar itself. in terms of an analogy, i would have to say its sort of like david defeating goliath with a gun.. because sure, the feat in itself is amazing but beyond that, nothing is worth noting since he did kill him with.. a.. gun. and in this case, the gun would be chris bosh and dwayne wade.

so no one ever reads this. or at least i hope no one does. but yeah. i couldn't sleep so i went on a 20 mile bike ride at 4:35am and came back home at 6am. i took a quick ass shower, tossed all my laundraaay in the washer, and now i'm up doing something i haven't done in almost a year (excluding the mildly entertaining photos of not-so-good looking basketball players).

speaking of basketball players (or was i just making a side note since its in parentheses?) lebron james is making his decision tonight. in about exactly 12 hours actually. either way, bron-bron is being a bit too diva-ish for my own liking. i'm gonna have to say that he's probably going to land with the knicks or stay with the cavs. really don't think he would commit to a team where there would even be the slightest chance of him NOT being the go-to guy when the game is on the line.. but if i'm wrong, then umm either way it doesn't really affect my life so whatever.

as a person, i don't think i really appreciate art for what it is. i appreciate the IDEA of art more than art itself. which is why upon going through my iphoto library, i found a couple of pictures i took a while back. super simple shots but for some reason i just like these two shots. my manGO is gonna take a shot since both pictures are of flowers (pronounced MAN-goh [combination of man + ego]). BUT SO WHAt, SUE ME. (this last line didn't work in context but i've been itching to say it so i'm sneakin it in)

this is one of many weird ass cars that my whack ass landlord owns. trust me, when i say our landlord is whack, i mean he's WHACK. dude won't fix shit in our house aka only 2/4 of our burners work, we don't even get to use our own garage since he uses it for personal storage, AND he has this secret fucking closet door that is locked on our top floor (as in there is a closet that we don't get to use inside the house cause he put a lock on it).

this would be our beautiful ass campus here at santa cruz. 100000% different than any other UC i've ever been to and ya'll should visit some time if you already haven't. seriously though, do any of you guys have 30 redwood trees in the middle of your dorm buildings?

and this last shot is a shot of Cowell College on campus. some of the dorm rooms at Cowell College have views that can compete with all views on earf. to the right of this picture lies the city lights of santa cruz as well as the ever-so-large pacific ocean.

i'm hoping that ucsc and ucsb are the only two UC campuses that have BEACH volleyball courts. holla atcha boi. not really. actually, slap me if you ever hear me say holla atcha boi in real life.

spring break is officially donezo. so after successfully completing one year of college, i've come to realize that i'm awfully close to being done with my second year. time really flies when you're having fun.. . . but continuing on a more conscious note, i'd have to say that everything besides school has been a wicked learning experience. never did i think that i would have gained THIS much knowledge ( knowledge meter: [-------|--]

In light of the recent shooting and killings of three Oakland police officers in the past week, there has been a lot of talk and controversy about the entire "fuck the police" state of mind. People who grow up in poverty, whose parents are full fledged drug addicts, and whose best friends are violent gang bangers, you really can't help but understand that they've been conditioned to think this way. After reading this article, I can empathize with these West Oakland residents who "cheered and celebrated the death of the three Oakland police officers".

"The Dallas Police Department confirmed Thursday that an officer drew a gun on NFL running back Ryan Moats and his wife after he stopped them to give them a ticket even as they begged to hurry to the bedside of their dying mother.

As he rushed his family to the hospital, Ryan Moats, 26, rolled through a red light. A Dallas police officer pulled their SUV over outside the emergency room at the Baylor Regional Medical Center at Plano.

and just like that, its 2009. i've been on this earth for 20+ years now and i swear life is just only getting better. it took one good conversation with my pops for me to realize that what i currently have in life is something that most people don't have or get to experience and that is 1) a close family 2) good friends and last but not least 3) a college fucking education.

so this was officially the second winter break that i've experienced since going off to college and honestly it's been one of the best. one filled with non-stop laughter, non-stop adventures, and non-stop friends and family. i swear at one point i was so physically exhausted from being here and there and doing this and that, that I had to just sit down for an hour and recollect all of the thoughts from the previous few days. there was SO much stuff going on that I would have to think hard to string together everything into fluidity.

i guess the main point that i wanted to get across with this post was that all of us should be extremely thankful for what we have. whether it be your dog that still loves you even when you fart in its face or whether its your heater that keeps you warm during these COLD ASS BAY AREA nights. but above all we should be thankful for the fact that we still have the capacity to come back home, reunite with high school friends and to go about enjoying eachothers company without skipping a single beat. if you look around, high school really is the end of the road for the majority of friendships. people go off to college, meet more interesting people and usually just end up not having enough time for the folks that they grew up with. so cherish it while you can and make sure to put in that little bit of effort to remain connected and somewhat up to date with your friends from back home whether it be through aim, facebook, text, or even a surprising ass phone call on a wednesday afternoon.

So I haven't written in this thing in a good three months. I think it's time for that come back like Jordan in 95'. I guess things have hella changed since really the beginning of college. The biggest being that I'm actually still here in Santa Cruz and will be for the next two-plus years. It's crazy how your outlook on your own life can change so damn suddenly and drastically.

Speaking of change, the election is o-fish-ally today. It seems like everybody and their mother has all of a sudden become an Obama-fucking-historian so I'll leave whatever needs to be said about the presidential election to be discussed in some other form. Oh yeah, some dude named McCain is supposed to be up against Obama but I don't know if homie is even going to show up.

Last but not least, I think the thing that has affected me the most has to be the fact that I'm living on my own in a house with six fucking dudes. It's just 24/7 mayhem and it's definitely been a HUGE learning experience about people. I'd be a Sociology major but where's the money in that? (I know all of you other UC kids agree, don't fronttttt).

So I guess I haven't made a serious post in this thing in a long time and after reading John's blog, I felt the urge to write something real serious, like so serious that it would make Sirius satellite radio jealous. Here it goes.

Growing up as a kid I was first introduced to religion through the likes of a regular old Christian Church. But the sad part is that the only thing I remember from those days are the 1) the playground behind the church and 2) wearing formal attire every weekend that made me feel really uncomfortable. I guess after a year or so, I eventually stopped going. That was mainly because of the fact that my dad's side is heavily Christian where as my mom's side of the family is HEAVILY Buddhist. I mean heavily as in pretty damn heavily like you got a blue whale sitting on a scale heavy. And since those times, I really lived a religion free life for probably a good 12 years of my life up until my junior year of high school. I guess as I got re-introduced to religion as a 17 year old, I was at first really happy and then slowly I began to realize how messed up things were within a church or a youth group.

After attending church for probably a good year or so from late sophomore year to junior year, I slowly began to understand why 95% of the kids woke up every damn Sunday at 10AM. Because most of their best friends had to do the same. The thing that I realized was that these kids grew up together, like I would have if I had stayed at my first church. When you have a bunch of friends that you've known since you were 5-6 years old, I'm pretty damn sure that you would be pretty close with a lot of them so I can't blame them for being at a place for the wrong reasons. After attempting to find some sort of "spirituality" during those times, I became more and more frustrated with the entire system and I came to a conclusion that religion isn't something that should be brought upon you, but instead, you should bring it upon yourself.

As ridiculous as this might sound to some of you church goers, I came to a rough conclusion that the whole religion thing is a bunch of nonsense. When you're a child and you're being force-fed information regarding the Bible and Christianity, what in the world else are you going to believe when you grow up? I mean, what if someone were to come and tell us that humans are supposed to walk on two legs and an arm? None of us would take that as fact and would just brush it off because of the fact that we've been trained since the beginning of our lives to walk on two legs. Its a weird analogy but it makes sense to me. Going through all of the thinking and wondering about religion, I'd have to say that I have the most respect and understanding for what John went through in order to find his way with Christ. I saw that guy putting in a lot of effort and time researching and studying the numerous religions that are out there, and I honestly think that is the way people should go about things such as religion in their lives. How is it that one could be so content when they haven't tried or experienced anything else?

This post wasn't meant to sound like a bash or anything, its just me expressing how I feel about the whole thing called religion. And although I've been content with my life in every shape and form, I still wonder what it could be like with the r-word incorporated within it. I don't know, maybe something will happen in my life that will make me realize what I need to do.

Santa Cruz

What can I say about Santa Cruz? Besides the endless supply of the ganja, this place is pretty coddamn boring. Friday nights? Not much to do unless you enjoy having eight person parties inside of your dorm room every damn week. Add on top of the fact that there are like two fraternities on campus, and also add on top that none of them have frat houses, and you have pretty much no parties. I guess thats why Santa Cruz has so many people who smoke because honestly, boredom leads to smoking. And with such beautiful weather in the forest, who wouldn't want to smoke? But I guess that's what separates the losers from the winners, because some of these kids won't grow out of this phase and will suffer the consequences later on the road, but for those who can smarten up and lighten up, not only will they be successful in the future, but since they didn't use up all of their smoke cards during college, they can enjoy a toke or two here and there while out of college. Sure, you shouldn't smoke when you have kids but coddamn is it an experience. No one should die without hitting the ganja at least once. But back to Santa Cruz as a city and college... Its really comparable to Mission Street in San Francisco but with a lot more homeless people and less violence. Downtown is basically just one long street with a load of random thrift shops (Santa Cruz would be perfect for you little indie/emo kids). UCSC is chill, probably not the ideal UC for Economics or Business or Political Science majors but instead, more for science majors. But it's coolie, life is about making the best out of situations, and thats what we'll all do. Finals are in exactly one week and it's going to be not that epic. To end it all off, Ryan, Nick, Peter and I went on a bike/scooter ride today, and I have to say, the nature scene here in Santa Cruz is just bombski. If you want to bomb decent hills with your bike or skateboard, Santa Cruz is where its at. I don't know why I wrote this entry when I have the rough draft of my final essay is due tomorrow.

With gas prices being incredibly high these days, I found this while reading some car forums. Hell, you learn something new everyday (unless you're a chemistry major or you like to study gasoline).

"TIPS ON PUMPING GAS

I don't know what you guys are paying for gasoline.... but here in California we are also paying higher, up to $3.50 (old information!) per gallon. But my line of work is in petroleum for about 31 years now, so here are some tricks to get more of your money's worth for every gallon..

Here at the Kinder Morgan Pipeline where I work in San Jose , CA we deliver about 4 million gallons in a 24-hour period thru the pipeline. One day is diesel the next day is jet fuel, and gasoline, regular and premium grades. We have 34-storage tanks here with a total capacity of 16,800,000 gallons.

Only buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning when the ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all s ervice stations have their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground the more dense the gasoline, when it gets warmer gasoline expands, so buying in the afternoon or i n the evening.. ..your gallon is not exactly a gallon. In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and the temperature of the gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, ethanol and other petroleum products plays an important role. A 1-degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. But the service stations do not have temperature compensation at the pumps.

When you're filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to a fast mode. If you look you will see that the trigger has three (3) stages: low, middle, and high. In slow mode you should be pumping on low speed, thereby minimizing the vapors that are created while you are pumping. All hoses at the pump have a vapor return. If you are pumping on the fast rate, some of the liquid that goes to your tank becomes vapor. Those v apors are being sucked up and back into the underground storage tank so you're getting less worth for your money.

One of the most important tips is to fill up when your ga s tank is HALF FULL. The reason for this is, the more gas you have in your tank the less air occupying its empty space. Gasoline evaporates faster than you can imagine. Gasoline storage tanks have an internal floating roof. This roof serves as zero clearance between the gas and the atmosphere, so it minimizes the evaporation. Unlike service stations, here where I work, every truck that we load is temperature compensated so that every gallon is actually the exact amount.

Another reminder, if there is a gasoline truck pumping into the storage tanks when you stop to buy gas, DO NOT fill up--most likely the gasoline is being stirred up as the gas is being delivered, and you might pick up some of the dirt that normally settles on the bottom.

So I guess for all of us on the quarter system, we have officially finished half of the school year. College life has been crazy ill and I guess the only thing I really have to regret at this point is not choosing a random roommate. I think I would have connected with a lot more people instead of being cooped up in my "comfort" zone so much. I still have one mid-term left next Thursday but its all gravy. Speaking of shit being gravy, the weather has actually been good for the last two days and the forecast is saying it'll be ready like spaghetti until Sunday which is bombski because rain really doesn't help anyone out (except for the foolies who don't go to school and just go to the mountain every weekend or everyday for that matter). The vibe in Santa Cruz has just been getting better and better and I'm loving it down here (except for the fact that our campus was built on a mountain range resulting in absolute no use of a bicycle or skateboard or any other transportation device besides my legs and the buses). But enough jibber jabber, its 1:52AM my roommate is snoring it up. While I sit away on Mondays watching two straight hours of Scrubs (excellent show btdubbbb) I think about how much time I'm going to be wasting procrastinating since five days out of seven, I don't have to do jack shit. Since today is Monday, I have jack shit to do, so I'm sitting here making a post while my roommate is snoring, taking a nap at 3:39PM. I would take a nap too, but I just feel way too guilty waking up five minutes before the sun sets. The whole point of this post (wow, I typed out essay at first instead of post, which goes to show that for some odd fucking reason, I am truly in school mode) was to just give you guys a glimpse of dorm life versus home life. I actually like my room better at school because I had the chance to organize it the way I wanted it to be where as back home I don't have that freedom because inside of every little asian woman's brain, she is an interior designer. But word to your mother.

I'm sitting here 3AM talking to Ronnay when I was looking through the Vans Vault thing that he has on his blog (http://ladi-dadi-story.blogspot.com/) and I was just thinking damn, back in like elementary school and middle school, I'd be walking around in some expensive ass Nikes and Adidas and shit and when I saw a kid wearing some Vans I'd think to myself what a wonderful world I mean I thought to myself ... "damn, this dude must be having it good back at home if he is out here rocking Vans" (don't get mad, I was young and ignorant) and to just think... in a span of probably four years, Vans have blown up like madddd. You walk around town and you can easily spot 15-20 kids wearing Vans in all kinds of crazy ass colors and shit. I'd take a good educated guess and say that 93% of kids in high school own a pair of Vans. It's amazing how they are able to market to goth kids all the way to even the nerdy ones who still cop Vans because they're dirt cheap compared to Nikes and shit, even though the price on Vans has almost increased twofolds in the past four years. Just something that I thought about and wanted to jot down on the bloggity blog. Peacin out of Millbrae tomorrow but since I only have classes on tuesdays and thursdays, I should be back home tons. so for now, location swapped to santa cruz cuttys! latey

Put away the bad, and maintain the new, digest all the drama and bond with your crew. 2007 was filled with a lot of firsts, but don't get crazy in 08' girls and start givin birth. Work hard in school to maintain the college ethic, but don't stay on academic probation, to your parents you be pathetic. To all the good and the bad and the shit I wish I had, props to Seth Rogen and his hit movie Superbad.
